Fixed Metal Braces

This type of brace consists of metal brackets that are glued to the teeth and used in conjunction with thin wires and elastics. This tried and tested treatment is very effective at precisely positioning teeth – which is not always possible with other appliances.

What results can be achieved?

Fixed metal braces can treat a range of orthodontic problems including:

• Gappy teeth
• Twisted or protruding teeth
• Crooked teeth caused by overcrowding
• Problems with how your teeth fit together (occlusion)
• Overbites and underbites

What is the treatment process?

We will clean your teeth and fix the brackets in place with a dental adhesive. We then attach wires and elastics so that teeth can be moved into position.

Treatment will usually take between 18-24 months. During this time you will have to visit us regularly so that we can make the necessary adjustments to keep your teeth moving smoothly into the correct position.

Following removal of fixed braces you will need to wear a retainer to maintain the new position of your teeth.
