Removable Braces

Removable braces are appliances which patients can put in and take out themselves. These braces are used for minor corrections, normally of the upper teeth, and can be taken out for cleaning or playing sport. They can also be used in conjunction with fixed braces.

They consist of a plastic plate with attached wires that move teeth gradually by applying gentle pressure.

How often can I take a removable brace out?

This type of brace should be worn at all times, including mealtimes and at night, to ensure the most successful treatment.

There are a few occasions when a removable brace can be taken out, these are:

  • during daily teeth cleaning sessions
  • after eating – for cleaning with your toothbrush
  • when playing contact sport or swimming
  • when playing wind instrument

When the brace has been removed, you should keep it safely stored in a protective brace box, which may be purchased from our reception.
